D2K Max Scores
« on: August 19, 2013, 03:48:39 pm »
I'm hoping to put together a chart or list of maximum board, level, and game scores for D2K. From what I can determine there was discussion about this on the old TG forums, probably lost forever, and maybe some discussion on CAGDC. Hopefully we can recreate and improve those discussions here and save them forever. At the very least, I'll have a nifty Excel file that I can keep for eternity. :D I plan on updating this post as the discussion moves along (which it hopefully will) and more precise information is squeezed out of the game.

Anyway, below are some rough initial calculations I've come up with. They are based mostly on the boards where the timer is the biggest determination of score. Since there doesn't seem to be an "invincibility" cheat for D2K I basically ran through the lower level boards many times, measuring the amount of frames it took me to complete the screen. Once I had an idea on the fastest possible completion time I used those numbers to calculate how much timer would remain on the higher levels with a perfect run. As you can see, this is not a perfect method so I strongly encourage any corrections people might have.

I would also really like the DK and D2K heavyweights to weigh in on scoring possibilities for the barrel, pie, and rivet screens as I'm not as experienced with pressing these boards. Using save-states, I made it to 14-6, the springs killscreen, with all men and a score of 563,200.

It's important to note that with prize locations alternating every level, the number frames required to complete a screen will change slightly.

1) Foundry:

My best run through the Level 1 Foundry clocked in at 2379 frames, and my best Level 2 Foundry was 2442 frames. This gives me the following numbers for MAX Foundry scores:

Level 1: 3,700 (3100 Bonus + 600 Prizes)
Level 2: 4,600 (3600 Bonus + 1000 Prizes)
Level 3: 5,700 (4100 Bonus + 1600 Prizes)
Level 4: 5,600 (4000 Bonus + 1600 Prizes)
Level 5-Level 14: Alternates between 5,700 and 5,600
Total Foundry MAX: 76,100

I've actually had a 3,800 Level 1 Foundry in which I nabbed 100 points off the top fireball while jumping onto the top platform. Probably not the safest move so I'm not using that number as the max score.

In the event at all Foundry screens end with 000 on the Bonus Timer, you end up with:
Total Foundry "000" MAX: 20,800

2) Barrels:

This section needs some input from the master pressers, but for right now I'm going to throw out a 10k average for the barrel boards throughout a full game.

Total Barrel MAX: 140,000

3) Refinery:

My best run through the Refinery clocked in at 3271 frames. If every Refinery could be cleared in this amount of time (good luck), the level totals would be:

Level 1: 3,700 (2300 Bonus + 800 Rivets + 600 Prizes)
Level 2: 4,100 (2800 Bonus + 800 Rivets + 500 Prizes)
Level 3: 5,400 (3000 Bonus + 800 Rivets + 1600 Prizes)
Level 4: 4,200 (2600 Bonus + 800 Rivets + 800 Prizes)
Level 5: 5,000 (2600 Bonus + 800 Rivets + 1600 Prizes)
Level 5-Level 14 : Alternates between 4,200 and 5,000
Total Refinery MAX: 63,400

In the event that all Refinery screens end at 000:
Total Refinery "000" MAX: 26,700

4) Pies:

These score are based on super-free passes up the right side with no delay from the adjustable ladder. Point-pressing doesn't seem like a good idea on the pies since you want to be above the fireballs as soon as possible.

Level 1: 4,500 (3900 Bonus + 600 Prizes)
Level 2: 5,600 (5100 Bonus + 500 Prizes)
Level 3: 6,900 (5300 Bonus + 1600 Prizes)
Level 4: 6,600 (5800 Bonus + 800 Prizes)
Level 5: 7,400 (5800 Bonus + 1600 Prizes)
Level 6-Level 14: Alternates between 6,600 and 7,400
Total Pies Free Pass MAX: 93,600

5) Incinerator:

The values for this board can depending on heart position and how hard one decides to press the lower conveyors. I don't yet have a full set of values for these situations, so I'll just list what I've been able to determine for now.

Level 1: 3,700 (2000 Bonus + 500 Hearts + 600 Prizes + 600 Transition)
Level 2: 4,400 (2300 Bonus + 500 Hearts + 1000 Prizes + 600 Transition)
Level 3: 5,100 (2400 Bonus + 500 Hearts + 1600 Prizes + 600 Transition)
Level 4-Level 14: 4,500 (1800 Bonus + 500 Hearts + 1600 Prizes + 600 Transition)
Total Incinerator MAX: 62,700

In the event that all Incinerator screens end at 000:
Total Incinerator "000" MAX: 36,200

6) Springs:

My best run on Level 1 was 1757 frames, and my best for Level 2 was 1476 frames. The assumption here is that you're given the best combination of springs. I believe these values might change as the levels progress due to the way springs are generated on Levels 4+. However, this gives a rough estimate of:

Level 1: 4,500 (3600 Bonus + 900 Prizes)
Level 2: 6,100 (4600 Bonus + 1500 Prizes)
Level 3: 7,300 (4900 Bonus + 2400 Prizes)
Level 4: 8,000 (5600 Bonus + 2400 Prizes)
Level 5: 7,500 (5100 Bonus + 2400 Prizes)
Level 6-Level 13: Alternates between 8,000 and 7,500
Level 14 prizes: 2,400
Total Springs MAX: 97,800

If someone gets to the Level 14 springs killscreen, then I assume they could just leech springs after gathering the prizes in order to bump their score a little higher before the timer runs out. This could net them up to 6,800 extra points if they make it to the 3rd prize platform with now delay.

Total Springs MAX with KS Spring Leech: 97,800 + 6,800=104,600

7) Mixer:

Since it's possible to press the Mixer, I'm including a "non-pressing" list and a "pressing" list. It's also important to note that a certain number of points are gained in transition from section to section because of the need to jump pies and fireballs.

Non-Point-Pressing:
Level 1: 4,400 (2900 Bonus + 900 Prizes + 600 Transition)
Level 2: 5,600 (3300 Bonus + 1500 Prizes + 800 Transition)
Level 3: 6,800 (3400 Bonus + 2400 Prizes + 1000 Transition)
Level 4-Level 13: 6,600 (3200 Bonus + 2400 Prizes + 1000 Transition)
Total Mixer Non-Pressing MAX: 82,800

Point-Pressing:
Level 1: 5,600 (000 Bonus + 900 Prizes + 600 Transition + 4100 Press)
Level 2: 8,900 (000 Bonus + 1500 Prizes + 800 Transition + 6600 Press)
Level 3: 8,900 (000 Bonus + 2400 Prizes + 1000 Transition + 6800 Press)
Level 4-Level 13: 7,200 (000 Bonus + 2400 Prizes + 1000 Transition + 6600 Press)
Total Mixer Point-Pressing MAX: 95,400

8) Rivets:

As with the barrel boards, I need some input from the top players and what they think they can squeeze out of the rivets. For now, I'll use a 7k average over the course of a game.

Total Rivets MAX: 91,000

So, adding the MAX of the MAX, we get the following:

1) Foundry: 76,100
2) Barrels: 140,000 (10k average)
3) Refinery: 63,400
4) Pies: 93,600
5) Incinerator: 62,700
6) Springs: 104,600
7) Mixer: 95,400
8) Rivets: 91,000 (7k average)
Total Game MAX: 726,800

Using the values for Foundry, Refinery, and Incinerator screens that end at 000, we need to subtract 118,500. This gives:
Total "000" Game MAX: 608,300

Discuss!

Here's another chart I've put together, showing theoretical Min-Avg-Max values for every screen. This is slightly different from my first gigantic post in that some numbers are ballparked.

The numbers from the above chart, but showing Min-Avg-Max for each level and for overall score:

On a game where the standard is to play with 7 men you need to include points gained with lost men, which (if they were all cashed in) could easily be as high as 60,000 - 80,000 points!
Donkey Kong:  1,206,800  Kill Screen
Donkey Kong:  898,600     16-5
D2K:                 380,200     L=9
Donkey Kong Junior:  In Progress

Absolutely. All that data is just based on pure scores per screen, so I'll need to add in the extra men.

Wow!  :o

Cool!

Nobody has ever analyzed this game with that depth before.

Of course, it's going to be a while before any point pressing has to be done to get the record!
