Is excessive play of Donkey Kong bad for mental health?
« on: August 26, 2023, 02:31:31 pm »
Personally I think it is. Over the years I've seen enough Donkey Kong players who play this game excessively who are prone to anger or mental health issues seem to have their mental difficulties amplified.

But perhaps this is a common theme with doing anything excessively, and I'm just seeing examples of Donkey Kong because it's something I have an interest in.

You could say the same thing about chess as a few great chess players seem to have lost their minds over the years

Just my two cents

Well, you're a good reference point.  I don't think the Allen Offs were too good for you

My theory is that it's the other way around. That is, playing Donkey Kong doesn't make you crazy. Being crazy makes you play Donkey Kong.

That's what I was gonna say. But you put it much more nicely than I would have. TY for that.

For me, playing Donkey Kong (on my TKG4 cab) served as a welcome distraction while working my way through graduate school.

As frustrating as the game can be, it sure beats writing a research paper! ;D
