Blue Vs. Orange Cabinets?

So why 2 different color cabinets? I read rumors that when DK JR. came out that there was such a high demand for the original game that Nintendo started using DK JR orange cabs to fill orders. Is there any truth to this? Just Curious...

Hmm, that's a new one I haven't heard before. Just speaking from experience and from what I have read I'm kind of doubting that this was the case. In all my arcade travels back in the day, I don't ever recall seeing an "orange" Donkey Kong. When Donkey Kong Junior was released I believe Donkey Kong's popularity was waning a bit, so I really don't see this happening. If anyone has other information about this or recalls seeing an Orange DK, I'd be interested in hearing about it for sure!

Not an orange DK. But I do have a Blue DKjr.
the backplate states it as a DKJR.

The_Rube, there isn't any chance that you might be getting the DKJ orange cabinets mixed up with the Radarscope red cabinet conversions to Donkey Kong is there?

We have a blue and a orange DK cabinets at the arcade, but I've seen orange ones before on craigslist and on ebay.

Yeah, Sage, I have no clue. I see orange one's on craigslist a lot as well, but I don't know if that came about for many DK's at one single time in the past or if people just do that on their own. I wonder how yours got that way. If I remember, yours has no side-art, but it still has all the front stickers -and wasn't the monitor a DK monitor as well?

The orange DK has side art and the proper silver tag on the back. DK JR has no side art

I don't believe there were ever any "factory" orange DK's. Especially since, by the time Jr. was released, DK had done its thing.

The problem with the cabinets for DK and Jr. is that they are identical in design, only the paint job is different, and it would be very easy for what was originally a Jr. to be converted to a DK (including swapping the serial plate on the back). The instruction sheet on the inside of the backdoor, if it's still there, may be a giveaway that an orange was originally a Junior.

People convert Jr.'s to DK's all the time for various reasons, especially over the last decade.

My blue DKJr has the instruction sheet on the backdoor.
It is a DKJR instruction sheet.
the serial plate is also dkjr.
I am going to guess that it started out as Donkey Kong and some one did a conversion on it.
I am converting it to Donkey Kong as soon as I get my boardset.
