Hey Ethan, I absolutely love the accompanying musical selection!

Is that "I'll Play the Blues for You", by Albert King?

If so, can you help me out with the particular version?  Is it the first track (7:17) from the album of the same name?

I've got to add this to my "bluesy" collection as soon as possible.

Great stuff.

Scott,

Unfortunately, the background music was from a "TV music channel"; so i'm not sure of the version, it was Albert King.  I personally recommend the extended version of the song, because blues solo's are tits.

Nice.  Shortly after replying, I also tracked down that same YouTube clip and immediately knew it was the one.

One little weird DK occurance on pie factory that I never really hear pointed out (mainly because it doesn't affect gameplay at all) is that the pies on upper conveyors sometimes will change direction (instead of just moving towards the oil can they'll reverse and go out the screen) until  mario reaches a certain height I think, then they'll always just go towards the oil can.

Not sure why I just decided to post this since it was something I've always seen.

I've never noticed that before, Dave.  Now that it's been mentioned, I will certainly be looking for it.

That could be the cause of the "double pie" phenomenon I have noticed. The change direction go offscreen and then immediately change back?

Keep in mind, I'm talking about the upper pies, not bottom pies when they change direction you get side by side one. I'm talking about upper pies changing direction.

OK, I went to one of my vid. You really don't see a good one until 28:09,

But it happens at 7:02 (pie sticks it's nose out then reverses)
Same at 14:43

But 28:09 is a good one, look at the upper left pie at 28:09 in this vid.

Yeah im talking about the upper pies. Ive had a situation where 2 pies were touching each other. The one where they go to the oil can.

OK then that must be a case of them reversign and changing back and creating a double up top. As long as I've been seeing the reversing up top, I never caught a double pie up top that I know of.

ha i never noticed this, guess its pretty common tho...funny the things you can not notice after hundreds of games!

Dave in your vid at 28.03 i think the pie reverses a tiny bit then changes its mind, just as you jump for the hammer...

looks like it reverses at regular timed intervals, when kong passes the centre of the screen (smashing barrels or climbing back down the 2nd ladder throws the timing in relation to kong), but cancels if your half+ way up the 2nd ladder, or at the top of a jump on the conveyor...

Cool, I knew it had something to do with how far up you went to cancel it, but didn't figure out all the details like you just did.

Here is a rather interesting situation where a fireball was smashed at the exact same time that a rivet was crossed; only the 100pt sprite value was shown on the screen (the 800pt sprite was not generated)

Thanks go to Marky_D for noticing this one...

As others have pointed out, it looks as though the "800" sprite actually does appear for a frame, and then is replaced by the "100" sprite. So, it would seem that two point-award sprites cannot be rendered at the same time. Now I was wondering what would happen during a "true" simultaneous award? Is it even possible? Those who play/watch DK Junior are aware of the extra-point glitch that occurs on the Hideout at the second apple, where the game gets confused when it tries to award points for a smash and a jump at the exact same time, causing the game to award 1200pts for the jump. I wonder if something similar would happen in DK?

I managed to grab a screen of the correct frame using the twitch viewer and print-screen this morning.  It appears it can/does render both, if only for a single frame.

Here is an image of the point counter from this exact frame; it shows that the 800pt smash was awarded just prior to the 100pts.

The score counter went from 272100 to 272900 and then almost instantly to 273000 (Look at the the "2" and the "9" in the score)

I think what you are seeing there is phosphor persistence. The pixels in a CRT monitor can't turn off instantaneously. There's a certain amount of "lag" before they completely disappear. Notice how the 800 looks a little faded compared to the 100.  That's also what you are seeing in the score. As it changes from one value to another, the old value is still visible for a fraction of a second.
