In case you've been having trouble using an IRC client to connect to Twitch chatrooms, the connection parameters have changed.

If using hexchat, the easiest option is to generate your password key, then just copy and paste the entire bottom line to your command line in hex (it does all the formatting), just copy and paste into a new server connection and ur done...

Does anyone know if the new generated passwords are absolutely mandatory?  Is anyone able to connect to Twitch IRC at all just using their Twitch password anymore?  I would absolutely HATE having to deal with these generated passwords.

However, my IRC chat (using hexchat) is now broken and has been for several days and I'm wondering if this is the problem.  I continue to get a sequence of messages in IRC that say that I am connected and logged in, but then there's something that says:

CAP :Unknown command

then I get an error message and am disconnected.  This happens over and over and over again, never staying connected.

If anyone knows how to fix this, please post here or send me an IM.  It's really nearly impossible to get the full experience within this community without the ability to chat.

Thanks for your help Ethan.  Meanwhile, I think I'll just simplify my above post to see if we can generate a flood of responses (ie, answers to the following questions):

Dean sorry i just use Chrome and connecting to chat works for me or just via the /streamers page here also works..

IT seems that the Oauth stuff is probably a requirement now? This page was updated today.
That is typically used in Single Sign On so they may have changed something at Twitch??
