Good stuff. I think the biggest issue is the difficulty of illustrating your examples "on-the-fly", especially the wild barrels. Flying through a bunch of save-state restarts can be confusing even for people who know exactly what you're talking about and know what visually to look for (in other words, me :P). I know this was sort of an impromptu thing you were doing for a couple of people but I think you did a good job and it's a useful video for JRTFBDN.

I agree for sure Jeremy, it can be a little confusing... But I believe their is a lot more value showing the the situations develop in a real setting .. than loading up a save state and showing exactly when it happens. To me there is value in before the situation develops, and the way I showed it is basically how it unfolds in a real live setting.

Instead of loading up a predetermined save state that I know EXACTLY how to live through, I basically called the situation before it happened.. waited for it to happen.. then reacted to it live. To me that is much better than showing a 1 wild barrel save state 1 barrel into the save state.

I am also VERY confident this tutorial could be used effectively in a KS setting and greatly minimize deaths on barrels, if any.

Shane I'm new to this forum and would definitely want to watch this vid.  Is there any chance you could upload it to youtube?  I've tried playing it a few times and it only plays about 3 minutes.  Also I can't view it from twitch from my phone.  Thanks my barrel game is definitely needing the most practice.

This is a really helpful video, helped me out no end on level 5 barrels.

Thanks for sharing!

Unfortunately, this video was lost on Twitch and there was no backup which means it will need to be done again. I already spoke with Shane about it this last week. You can watch the barrel training videos that I made but you will have to watch to see what would be helpful to you as one running boards because it is more thorough and contains content that is more geared towards advanced players. Another way to do this is simply watch basic running the boards killscreen games. I apologize for the quality of these videos since they were among some of my earliest videos. I have since learned how to do such videos in better quality and more sound.

I have linked my training videos here. You will find some other videos that may be useful but I have yet to add a basic killscreen game section which I will do soon. http://wiki.donkeykonggenius.com/Getting_Started#Training_Videos (http://wiki.donkeykonggenius.com/Getting_Started#Training_Videos)

This was my first killscreen. Sorry no sound. Just watch the barrel boards and try to pick out little tricks that might be helpful. Then just practice the barrel board with save states until you are familiar with all the little variations that can occur.

Hey Corey,

Is it possible to permanently save previous twitch recordings?

Thanks, Al

Yes. I use OBS and have a setting checked that allows the program to save a local copy on my computer every time I stream. That way I always have a backup. Also, if you see a good twitch video out there you can always download it so that if it is ever lost on Twitch, you will have your own personal copy. http://www.twitchtools.com/video-download.php (http://www.twitchtools.com/video-download.php)

I wasn't successful with OBS, using Xsplit which seems to be ok for the time being. Thanks for the heads up with regard to Twitch tools

The video converter is pretty handy.

OBS does not work on XP and other operating systems. But they are presently developing makes of it that will allow broader use. I hate xsplit with a passion.  <mad>

Hi guys,

I spoke to Corey earlier on his Twitch channel. I found the original video Shane did with regard to the kill screen barrel strategy on my laptop yesterday. It's 840 MB's in size, Corey mentioned uploading the file to Dropbox so I registered and have uploaded the file so you guys who missed out can watch it.

Here is a link to the file

Enjoy!

Cheers, Al

Thanks, Al. I spoke with Shane as well about this. For a backup, I am going to put it up on my youtube account as well. I need to do this so I can embed it into the wiki, on the Getting Started with DK page. So glad that someone had the content! :D He was so disappointed that Twitch lost some of his stuff.

Interestingly, the video that you have here Al actually starts 1 min 27 sec or so after the actual training video - originally, and only shows 15 min, though when I downloaded it from dropbox it was 30 min. If I download the link on twitch it gives me 30 min of content but everything before and the first 1 min 27 sec. This is why the first 1 min 27 sec can be seen on the twitch page. For some reason when you downloaded the file from twitch it was 30 min after this point, and now it is 30 min prior to this point. Hence, on twitch side they have the wrong 30 min block tied to the page. What I did was to take the first 1 min and 27 sec from twitch and amend that to your downloaded video of  30 min, so that it is complete here. It is only the first 1 min 27 sec that is different. Otherwise they are the same.

Not sure why that was Corey.  Only found it by chance going through some stuff on an old laptop, so thought I'd better let you guys know.

It's a pretty useful video though.

Shane,
Thanks so much for making this vid and Corey for saving it.

Watched this for the first time last night Shane and it was a revelation; vid flow and teaching style is spot on as is knowledge of the material, just blown away man. Perfect tutorial with a huge impact already on my game.

Hope you'd consider making the same type of vids for the other stages.

Thanks ; )

Awesome video - thanks for creating it and saving it for future players!

Could someone clarify the point he's making at 28:00 to 28:30, and again 29:00 to 29:10 (on the YouTube version). After grabbing the top hammer, he says to park in the safe spot on the 5th girder (just to the left of the taller ladder coming from the 4th, apparently a safe spot where you can't be hit by a wild). Then, you are supposed to move right just a bit to where you are on top of the taller ladder coming from the 4th (just to the left of the broken ladder up to Kong). If there's no wild barrel coming, you can then run past past the broken ladder to safety on the right.

What I find unclear is exactly when you are supposed to transition from the "safe spot" to the "put your nose here" spot just to the left of the broken ladder. I've watched both parts of the video numerous times and can't tell if he's making that little move after he sees it's not a wild barrel, or if you are supposed to move from the safe spot to nearer the broken ladder and then wait there to see if it's a wild barrel.

If you're waiting in the safe spot to see if it's a wild barrel, what's the point of moving right briefly and pausing there before making a run further right? If you're waiting nearer the broken ladder to see if it's a wild barrel, what's the point of parking in the safe spot briefly first?

Any help clarifying what the approach he's trying to convey here would be greatly appreciated!
