Dean has been my Donkey Kong inspiration for more than 4 years. He deserves that score! And to get that score with only 6k for his deaths is insane! Wether or not you hit 1.2m one day, 1,186,700 is without a doubt an insane score to be proud of!
It's important to have skills in Donkey Kong, but dedication is definitely the most important aspect, and Dean proved it! YER BUDDY!
1,167m was in reach for some players, but 1,186,700 will DEFINITELY be extremely hard for anyone to try for that pace, let alone beat it ;). Hail to the King of King! (I don't know what "Hail" means, I just love the term, so hopefully it fits in the text, lol)

Huge major props to Dean. Also thanks to Mitch as well. I decided to check out Dean's stream when he posted it on Facebook. If it wasn't for him I don't know if I would have been able to see the final 8 levels!

I just had a feeling about that game. Like my post said, I felt like I'd regret it if I didn't post it early enough for others to enjoy the possible experience. The possible, in this case, was made actual! Lovit, Dean!!!

Wow, over 150 viewers? That's WAY more than I thought and I'm pretty sure that's the most I've ever had. Thanks to everyone for your support, it definitely helps! This is a great community and hopefully it stays this way.

I regret not being there to witness the historic moment live (early bedtime), but I did watch the INP playback first thing this morning. It was a nice way to commemorate the 34th anniversary of my first Grateful Dead concert (09/05/79 at Madison Square Garden).

Thanks again everyone! It was a lot of fun finally getting this done on my stream with so many viewers online watching and able to enjoy the moment with me. For an online / MAME player, that's as close to the equivalent of a large crowd forming behind your arcade machine when something big is about to happen as we can get. It definitely helps to ramp up the excitement that's for sure.

As I mentioned at the end of my stream last night, the game felt a little unusual (besides the score of course) in a few ways.
Looking at the stats, the most obvious issue was the small amount of points gained with lost men. In the past, I had actually been aborting a lot of my games that featured a second "bad death", especially one that comes quickly after the first death like what happened here. But, since I recently downgraded my goal to 1.19 million AND since I had an extremely strong start for that pace goal, I decided to play it out. You can see that I immediately tightened up and played very unrelaxed for the next several Levels, scoring under 60,000 in 3 out of the next 5 Levels. I found the groove again for a little bit after that but was soon running into the "fatigue factor" just a short while later. Levels 16 - 21 scored about like I would expect on a game that goes that deep, the scoring rate being significantly lower than it was, say, during Levels 4 - 9. It's hard to explain what exactly happens when you become "fatigued" during these types of games, but it becomes a very serious challenge that you just try to push through as best as you can without dying and that often results in a small decline in the scoring pace.
Sort of on a related note, dying 3 times on non-barrel boards is pretty unusual for me these days as well -- I almost always have one or more barrel deaths, some of which are "good deaths" where a fireball gets to the top and you get to basically sacrifice the man for maximum points. I didn't have any of those in this game, which is somewhat unusual. Obviously, dying on an Elevator board is very unusual as well.
Another detail that's a bit strange is the wide variety of Level scores -- they were really all over the place in this game, which is rare. Most of my good games lately just don't have any really bad Levels. This game had a totally catastrophic 54,400 Level and 3 other sub-59,000 point Levels. That would seem like a poor game for me until I see that I also had SIX Levels of OVER 63,000 points! That's equally surprising. Generally I might expect all of the Levels in a full game to fall somewhere inside that 59,000 - 63,000 point window, so the way this one played out was interesting.
Overall, I'm pleased with the final Level average of 61,000 points. That's right around what I had estimated that I should be able to sustain for a full game. It's funny, because with each of the board type averages, none of them really stand out. I have done significantly better than that in each of those 4 categories in different games and yet these particular numbers all add up to 61,000 which is a good result.
Well, that's all I can think of for now. Looking forward to at least a small break from this game!

Wow! I did not realize that you had a level as low as 54,400! I can't remember what actually took place on that level too make it so low... was that the one where you had a screwing on the Conveyor Stage? I know you had a later stage where you had a screwing of about 500 points on the Elevators -that was kinda unusual in itself.

I love how Dean refers to a 54,400 point level (which would have me quietly and smugly doing the Wiebe pose, and which is more points than I will ever get in any level in any run ever) as "totally catastrophic."

This is pretty much expected...
every long game has a level or 2 where you just get completely hosed and score 5K less than what you think you can average.
Still 61K is a crazy level average especially since it was a toned down game.

The L10-1 barrels (9900 points) was the lowest score of all L05+ barrel boards, and 1 of only 3 that dipped below 11K. The L10-2 conveyors (6100) and L10-6 rivets (6000) were both 2K less than the average (8100) for those stages.
It's comforting to the rest of us that, for a brief period of 10-12 minutes, Dean was a poser. :)

Yeah Stella I Seen your analysis. I believe you did it anyways that showed all the levels. I believe that. I tallied up the worst boards pie, elevator, rivet, and took his 9900 barrel board for all three boards and his level was still at 47k or so. Which is pretty awesome considering that would be your worst possible level and mind you I just took the worst board of the barrel stage and not the three worst which were I'm sure in the 10k area. He was still at his worst pace over 900k for kill screen average. With 100k start. If you tallied my worst levels I'd be around 30k or so probably. Lol.

3h15? Damn, that's 17 minutes longer than my PB. I wonder if doing a 3h30 run is possible on 1.2m+ pace (on a 100k pace, it's probably possible to get a 4h30 game long by wasting time on every boards, but that's another story! ;-)).
