Title: Pie Factory Siamese Twin Fireballs!
Post by: homerwannabee on June 17, 2013, 02:09:48 pm
Yep, you saw correctly.  I actually had a Pie Factory board where two fireballs stayed together for the entire time!   From the moment they came out, to the very end of the level they stuck to each other like glue.  The only reason why I was able to figure out which ones where the Siamese twins is because the fireball is a tad bit fatter than the others.  Here is the video of this happening.  Truly strange stuff!

Yeah, the same thing happened to Dan on a rivet board a couple of months ago:

The "twins" are the 1st and 5th fireballs to enter the screen.  They remain in sync for the duration of the stage.

Hmm, OK, I think I remember seeing that, but somehow I didn't get they were combined as one for some reason.  His Siamese fireballs after looking at it again are a tad bit easier to figure out because they are rotating up, and down.  My fireballs literally are completely in unison except I think they are a couple of millimeters apart.

I've had something similar happen a couple of times at the start, but they didn't stay together for the entire board. When it's happened before it only appears that 4 fireballs leave the oilcan, and the first time it happened I thought I miscounted or wasn't seeing one. The next time it happened I figured they came out so close I couldn't tell so I just ran with it instead of waiting around for a fifth one.

Yeah they were slightly outta sync but took me a while to find em when i played. Was cool they stayed the entire board and never varied. I loved that I jumped em too to complete the board.  8)

Since this is the second known instance of this happening the entire board it makes me wonder.  Are the firefoxes as random as we make them out to be, or does the game think because they are so close together that they are one firefox?  A good case for that is you only got 100 for jumping two firefoxes.

P.S.
It's pretty cool that both the Rivet, and the Pie Factory boards both have this same rare effect!

For the record, this is not the second known instance.  :)

In fact, here's a savestate I made a couple years ago of some glued fireballs if anybody wants to play with it (MAME 0.141, but it seems to work with .140 also, and maybe others.)

You can only get more than 100 points for jumping multiple objects on the barrel boards.

Cool you have a save state of that!  I don't use MAME 140, and so my biggest question is this.  When you hit the glued together fireballs with a hammer what happens?

Edit: Also I did not know that only the barrel board has higher than 100 point values for jumping over multiple objects.  Nice to learn something new about the game! 8)

Siamese twins smash just like two overlapping barrels - one right after the other. (And the score doesn't necessarily match. It selects from 300/500/800 as normal).

Ohhhhh yeah i need to highlight it. I died on the stupid board but I had a PF during the WCR#3 where the 2 fireballs were glued together the whole time! Gotta find it as I have no CLUE when i did it :)

Also I think if the circumstance of the SPAWN is in the EXACT same place as the firefox/fireball its on then they will respond exactly the same to mario since the "randomness" I'm sure has to do with "x" position on the board and what your doing. Would be cool to know 100% for sure. I've had firefoxes and fireballs "merge" for a little bit and then go apart but they never spawned that way. How many times does that actually happen? Probably one in 10000 at best.
