Title: Five top 10 scores from 2020...
Post by: naujoks on September 23, 2020, 01:09:39 pm
Isn't it crazy that five of the top 10 DK scores were achieved in 2020?
Is DK actually becoming more popular? And if so, what's bringing on that popularity?

The competition is definitely getting stronger. One thing of note. All those people have been playing Donkey Kong for years.
It's nearly impossible to geta top 10 in less than a year now.

Once someone gets around to using IDA or Ghidra to reverse engineer DK I think a lot of those scores will get beaten again. Barrel control and flame control seem to still be in dispute?! There might be a few more tid bits left to learn about the game as well.

Actually, SIX of the top 10 scores are from this year.
People have played DK forever, how come the top scores are all coming in this year? Corona isolation?  :D

2x100 jumps, efficiency on the springs, and bottom hammer on pies, have added a significant amount of points to the "level averages".  Like George said, most of these people have been playing at least 5 years; Robbie and John really showed the effect of these techniques on consistent scoring and the leaderboard is now reflecting that, as the elite players incorporate the newest refinements.  Don't be surprised to see another 3 or more players do it soon; Dean, Wes and Phil Tudo are all easy contenders.

tl;dr circus jumps, spring leaching and gambol pushed up the level averages in general, and the best players (new and old) did something with the knowledge.
