Title: question about errant barrels

Hi everyone. I am new to the forum. I have a question about those erratic barrels that Kong throws out during the various ramp stages. Is there a way to use Mario (aka, jump man) to control the pattern of the erratic barrels? For instance, can you quickly change the direction of jump man and then go back the other way to avoid getting hit by the barrel or is there no effect in doing this? For those posters who are successful in avoiding the erratic barrels, I would appreciate any suggestions you may have. Thanks a lot.
