D2K High Score Collection
« on: July 09, 2013, 08:23:49 pm »
I'm starting this thread in order to have a place to collect D2K high scores, verified and unverified, so we can eventually have an "official" D2K High Score List. Estel started a similar thread in the D2K category, but I think a dedicated thread belongs in the HSL category. Jeff, if you want to move or merge this thread that's cool.

Here's what I have so far. There will be some duplicate names since I'm pulling from multiple sources. Those will be sorted out later.

1 - 405,xxx - Dustin Austin (Peer)
2 - 398,800 - Benjamin Falls - May 2009 - Arcade [381,700 - 2009-05-30 - Funspot (TG - Arcade)] [259,300 - 2013-10-04 (MARP - MAME)]
3 - 380,200 - Dean Saglio (MAME)
4 - 304,900 - John Marks - 2009-04-06 - Home Performance (TG - Arcade)
5 - 286,300 - Scott Kessler - 2008-05-30 - Funspot (TG - Arcade)
6 - 272,500 - Eric Akeson - 2009-03-28 (TG - Arcade)
7 - 256,700 - Chris Psaros - 2012-12-12 (MARP - MAME) [243,900 - Arcade - 2013-09-23]
8 - 199,700 - Gregory Erway - 2008-05-30 - Funspot (TG - Arcade)
9 - 178,xxx - Hank Chien -~2012-12-08 (Peer - Arcade?)
10 - 129,300 - Scooter Ahlers - 2009-03-07 - Funspot (TG - Arcade)
11 - 126,800 - Jeremy Young - 2013-08-24 (MARP - MAME)
12 - 118,300 - Estel Goffinet
13 - 113,400 - Eric Ahlers - 2009-04-11 - Funspot (TG - Arcade)
14 - 108,500 - Troy Newman - 2009-04-13 (TG - Arcade)
15 - 73,400 - Donald Hayes - 2008-10-04 (TG - Arcade)
16 - 67,600 - Jacob Martin - 2009-05-29 (TG - Arcade)
17 - 48,500 - Brian Allen - 2012-03-28 (MARP - MAME)
18 - 42,300 - Allen Staal - 2012-04-07 (MARP - MAME)
19 - 37,000 - Eric Liddell - 2008-06-01 - Funspot (TG - Arcade)
20 - 31,300 - Phil Lamat - 2011-01-13 (MARP - MAME)
21 - 28,300 - Jeffrey Lowe, Jr. - 2008-05-31 - Funspot (TG - Arcade)
22 - 23,000 - Jason Corey Brittain - 2013-07-15 (MAME)
23 - 20,300 - Dan Cunningham - 2008-05-31 - Funspot (TG - Arcade)
24 - 17,100 - Nathan Casstevens - 2011-12-30 (MARP - MAME)

So, as of right now, I believe Ben Falls as the official WR for this game. Is that his TG score or his 398,800 score? Can we get exact scores for Dustin? What other scores are out there that should be on this list?

Thanks! This is useful. Now I'm REALLY tempted to start the "official" list...

Hank gave up around 200K.

I know because I was secretly trying to get there first!  ;D

His last reported score was 178K in December.

I'm sure he could get over 300K, but he doesn't like the game.

Oh nice!  This would be a very cool scoreboard to start up.  I haven't played the game much lately, but I've been meaning to come back to it since no one has kill screened the game yet!

Right now, my Misfitmame high score save kit has my top score at 380,200.  A few different times I've had scores on my high score save kit mysteriously vanish though -- I think it might have something to do with loading up a save state.  So, I'm not completely sure if this is my true high score or not but I know for sure that I've never hit 400k because I've been pretty close a bunch of times.  Keep in mind this is on the 6+1 settings, which for some reason is considered the default or standard setting for the game unless something has changed recently.

Let's get the ball rolling on this.  It would be interesting if someone put up a bounty for the first kill screen on this game or something!  But just seeing a decent scoreboard for the game would be fun.  Good work!

I updated my initial post and combined into one list the different scores from different sources. I'm assuming the setting is 6+1 for all these scores (and all future attempts).

A bounty would be fun for this game, but I'm certainly in no position to make a run on one.  ;D

I'm not going to claim or ask for official manager status on this list since someone like Chris is much more suited to the task, being more familiar with the game and scene in general. Not yet anyway. I'd definitely like to see it take the same route as Corey's DK list.

Once I get a DK killscreen I'll be playing D2K in between my Pac-Man (all versions) sessions. Right now I only get in a D2K game once every couple of weeks.

My high score is 17,800 on this game!  Do I have to send a recording in?  How do I do that using the Mame 0.140?  I'm not sure how!

I'll try to get ahold of Dustin for an exact score and see if he has an INP we could view.

Jeremy, if you are going to make this list just like mine then you will find that spreadsheet I gave you really quick. If you are going to have criteria such as I have you will want to have that in place now as opposed to later. It is your list though, you can have it on the honor system if you want. :D

Corey, I definitely want this list to be as thorough and verifiable as your list. I think a lot of the scores will, at this point, be of the "Peer Verified" type. There's obviously no reason to doubt the scores put up by Dean, Hank, or Ben. I'm going to try and put together an easy "how-to" post for recording this game since it's not playable in WolfMAME .106. I've played it in MisfitMAME and Wolf140 but haven't really experimented with recording INPs for it. Also, I never got your spreadsheet so I'm going to send you my email again in a PM.

Jason, I'll try to get a recording guide up soon! I'll put your score on the list for now.  ;D

Right, the peer-verified aspect that I use is if I had Mitch over at my house and I did it live for him to see. Or I streamed it on Twitch and people saw it but the stream broadcast is no longer saved. For someone to say that they got a particular score would not be adequate. If someone else said they saw them do it then that is different. If we accept scores based on what a player says, whether it is Dean, Hank, or a new person, then there is no longer verifiability, and if you accept theirs and not others on that same basis then you are applying a double standard. I hope that makes sense. I will email the spreadsheet to you later. I have the list on a different computer and I am on my new laptop at this time.

I hope that makes sense.

Yeah, I get it completely. As of now, this thread is just a starting point to collect scores and will ideally lead to an official list, to hopefully be moderated by Chris, myself, or someone else. I would really like to see this list follow some of the recommendations made by Dean, in that if a player achieves a score and wants it recognized, then it goes on the list. Beyond that, each score can be tagged with a certain level of verification. He mentioned categories along the lines of "Full Verification, Limited Verification, Claim, Rumor, etc." Those levels of verification might actually serve a D2K list better than a DK/DKJR/DK3 list. D2K just doesn't have the level of exposure or "prestige" as the other games.

I realize that different lists with different formats/requirements might confuse things on DKF, so let's just take it slow and see how much interest this list draws.  ;D

I did like Dean's idea in general. But like you said, I could not incorporate that into the DK HSLs. I mean to have someone on the list with a score of 1.2M on the top that is rumored claimed or rumored would just be weird. For the most part, the source column serves my purpose for verification. In this sense levels of verification already exists. If Mitch went to your house and saw you do 1.1M, or should I say he lies to make you look good and it goes on the list as "peer", does this carry as much verification as someone with an inp, or, even better since anyone can get an inp from someone else that did it, then there is doing the game live in front of twenty people in an arcade. In reality, I already have levels of certainty applied to different scores on the list, what I don't do, especially for an evidenced-based list is to add anything that is merely claimed or rumored. So, if someone follows the normative rules, then that is my full verification, if I have to appeal to the auxiliary rules, then this is my limited verification. If that makes sense.

The area that I need to refine and perfect is how to handle non-inp streamed games. I must have an absolute line here or it will keep moving as I feel bad for rejecting scores, lol. I have to develop this area more because more often than not, if I don't have an inp I am hard pressed to find a way to verify it without too much trouble.
