Kongrats to my mate Robbie for being the new dk arcade world record holder with a score of 1,141,800. He's the true definition of "Never Give Up!" Kappa
I don't know what was his deaths, but I know he only got a 118k start, so to get that score with a start that shitty, it takes some balls!

The timing couldn't be better. You claimed the arcade WR on the 35th anniversary of my first Grateful Dead concert: Madison Square Garden - September 5th, 1979. Tonight I'll be celebrating your achievement as I attend my 5th Steely Dan show. I doubt that "King Of The World" will be included in the setlist, but "Black Friday" is almost a certainty:
"When Black Friday comes I'll be on that hill. You know I will."

Congrats Robbie! That must be one heavy burden to finally get off your shoulders...being so close for a while.
Thats great that the record was broken with a 118K start, this immediately shows that he can play 20K higher than 1.14M. If you ever aspire to get to 1.2M you have to beat the arcade record with potential left in the tank to increase. Thats one reason I still only shoot for 120K starts...that and nothing kills your desire to play than restarting before L5 starts.

I might get into Super Pac man again. Ive been neglecting my cab for a while now. Im just gonna enjoy it while I have it and see what sparks my interest. Im not fully done with DK I really want a 1.15 before I would think about not playing it seriously anymore. But I might even try No Hammer or different things to keep the interest alive.

Congrats Robbie for this huge accomplishment. I'm looking forward to seeing how high the arcade record will get. Someone should really do 1.2m on arcade or at least 1.18 to get this close to the max that's achievable.

Thanks Jeff, Hank and I talked about that we feel people will always be trying to push the score higher but for us we feel around 1.17 to 1.18 would realistically be the limit. Anything above that would be extremely tiresome and time consuming. But then again I have zero patience trying get 130k starts all time.

My "retirement" goal is in the neighborhood of 1.17-1.18M. While I feel 1.2M is definitely possible on arcade, I also know the pain involved in achieving such a score. If someone wants to pursue it... more power to them!

Robbie, might I suggest going for the top-hammer-only 1m+ score? Doesn't seem like it'd require you to change much strategy from what you're currently used to doing. Might as well try while you're in point-pressing shape.

I actually thought about trying that Mitch since it hasn't been done before. If I feel like playing for kicks again I might just do that. Are there ground rules for this? Just top hammer on barrel boards or all boards? Weave every rivet? What about the pie factory? I need answers!!!

Just can't use the bottom hammer on barrels... but if you wanted to do just top hammer on every screen, that would be hardcore as well. Either way, I would at least track whatever attempts you wanna do in my "DK Challenges" thread.

top hammer 1 million is way doable. Even a scrub like me was on a 1.02 pace game once hammer only that ended up dying around 750k and still right around 1.01 - 1.02. ICourse i had like a 115 or 120k start it was crazy good for TH only. Still ts all about the fireballs coming up on you at that point. Sometimes they dont and you still get massive barrel stages :D

I'm up to about 650k. I was on the verge of being able to marathon it but I decided to put all my focus to DK so I have to relearn the patterns again.

I subtracted 1981 from 2014 several times. I keep getting 33.
It has even captured the imagination of the celebrity world, with rapper Eminem in particular boasting on Twitter about his high scores (his best, 465,800, hovers around the top 30 mark) and claims he’ll one day snatch the title, just as soon as he gets round to it.
Not quite.
On the TG scoreboard, a score of 465,800 would be good for 43rd place. It barely makes the Top 100 on our High Score List, coming in at #99 (excluding MAME scores, it improves to #62).
I suppose it all depends on your definition of "hovers" and "around".
EDIT: Should actually be #41 in the TG rankings, since Steve Wiltshire and Mike Groesbeck are both listed twice.

I've been seeing stuff all over the map over the last week, including that Robbie's record was "3,200 points", and somebody embedding the video of Dean's machine resetting as if it were the video of Robbie's run.
Trust me, comparatively, this fellow did alright! ;D

I think I might have to write a script for that blog post that dynamically updates the approximate ranking of Eminem's score.
When I originally wrote it, I said "close to the top 20", and at the time, it was true!
I changed it at some point, to where it was at the time, but you know how that goes...
