Title: High Score Section
Post by: Thelawnmowerman2 on July 06, 2014, 01:26:59 pm
I thought that I should put up a topic where people can share their PB from various classic arcade games that they have played.
I have a few that I can share.

Centipede: 88521
Missile Command: 96335 (with bonus cities)
Space Duel: 29870 (single ship) and 44340 (connected ships)
Gravitar: 13600
Major Havoc: 154370 (no level skipping)

Feel free to share you PB if you wish. ;D

I would just link to my Aurcade entry but since Aurcade ate all of my score tracking data nearly a year ago and David Hernly couldn't be bothered, I'll just have to type them out.  I really need to register on MyHighScores.net already.  At least John Bartkiw is responsive.

Arabian - 248,350
Black Widow - 362,125
Centipede - 366,417
Donkey Kong (4 lives) - 778,600 (L19)
Donkey Kong (7 lives) - 928,500 (kill screen)
Empire Strikes Back - 403,067
Frogger - 35,600
Galaga (TGTS) - 207,410
Krull - 320,230
Mario Bros. - 895,580
Monaco GP - 9,498
Moon Patrol - 334,370
Ms. Pac-Man Turbo - 353,280
Omega Race (3 lives) - 209,250
OutRun - 31,070,790
Pac-Man Turbo (3 lives) - 1,277,060
Pole Position (TGTS) - 64,310
Robotron - 10,335,875 (killed off)
Robotron (TGTS) - 451,800
The Tin Star - 123,200
Track & Field (TGTS) - 81,680
Wild Western - 999,900 (max out)
Zoo Keeper - 1,739,430

The DK scores are from November 2009.  My DK cab was set on 6+1 by the previous owner and when I bought it I forgot to change the dips before jamming it into a row of games and I didn't feel like pulling it out again.  Figured 6+1 would be good for practice.  Took me less than a month to kill screen it on those settings.  Stopped playing it after that because I thought the game was getting too much attention at the expense of too many other great classic arcade games.  (Nothing's changed.)  Also, I stopped playing Kicker in 2009 when I realized it's way too fucking easy so there is no point in tracking scores on it.  It's just a fun memory of Funspot X for me now.

Aw, nothing?  :)

I have believed for over a year now that 2013 was going to be the peak for DK, after which people would gradually start to move on and branch out. Maybe there's an element of projection here (I personally am barely interested in DK at all anymore), but I would say this is exactly what's happening.

And I definitely don't see DK's popularity as a zero-sum/scarcity issue where if DK is getting attention it is somehow siphoning attention/energy/resources from other games that would otherwise get it. In fact, the opposite might be true. The DK competition has been stoking the overall classic gaming flames more than anything else I can think of.

I will say though that no classic game will ever hit a critical enough mass to replace DK as a singularly-popular title that everyone is competing at. The movie catalyzed the whole thing of course, but DK just happens to be a damn good game for competion. It has a little bit of everything. I'd be hard pressed to even think of a game that could get a similar field going around it.

At any rate, I really do think that DK is winding down. And that will be a relief to many!

My only noteworthy scores are the ones in my sig. I'm generally bad at everything else and honestly haven't played that many arcade games. I grew up on Defender, started Pac (and hated it, but had to KS to "finish"), and then branched out to DK.

This may very well be true, but your Donkey Kong score is more significant than the 15 scores I posted combined.

I haven't been around as I should be on an occasion. I will have some new PBs for classic games soon enough folks. Thanks for being good sports and sharing your success.  ;D
