Title: Personal Goals
Post by: Martin Laing on December 19, 2013, 02:05:23 pm
Hi all

I'm curious to know what people have set for their current DK goal (and maybe any other game that takes your fancy).

Currently I am aiming for a 900K score, and have got within 105K twice in the last month. I am definitely playing playing at a pace that will get me their, so hopefully it's not too far away.

Would also like to get 300K with no hammer.

Same as you. 900k with or without KS on DK. And 1 million on DK j.r with or without KS. Recorded with wolfmame or at home on original cabs.

A much later goal is one million on all three DK:s. Would love the DK triad badge.

Hey, I have a few gaming goals for 2014

In DK, my ultimate goal is to get past 400k, the only thing stopping me is springs.  :P

And I would love to killscreen CK, I'm aming at a end score over 600k and if I get lucky and everything goes as planed, I think I have around 640k in me, but let's get that killscreen first :)

And some other goals:

Mario Bros: 200k
Ladybug: 400K
Learn a new pacman pattern so I can get past the 6th key
Get my Space Invaders cocktail cabinet fixed.

Looking to get into galaga maybe. I haven't really played a serious game of donkey kong in about 6 months or so. Working as much as I do I have virtually no time. I think a kill screen would be perfect. Then 900k. I got two weeks off of work so that'll be my only opportunity. I'll be on 12 hour days 7 days a week up until august. It's going to suck

Galaga is the only Game i Remember at the Arcades, i was Drawn to it. Another Goal i have is to get through as much of far cry 3 as i can before work starts again; getting it as Christmas Present.

Damn stella_blue. Any videos or tips for outrun? I complete it 2/10 times but only with few seconds left.

Sure.  I streamed a replay of my personal best and highlighted it.

The video quality isn't the greatest, especially if you plan to watch in full screen mode.  I've also uploaded the INP file to MARP, which provides a better playback experience.

As for tips, I'll happily answer any questions you may have.

EDIT:  Updated the Twitch and MARP links with my current personal best.

Do you need a wheel setup to play in MAME?

A DK kill screen would be nice. Not played for a few months but I'm hoping to get more time in the new year. Been studying Deans latest 1.2 game and also very much enjoying Corey's vids.

A DK Junior KS would also be cool but this is a much closer and realistic target blowing out on my last big game on 18-1.

No, a wheel setup is not required.  I'm not certain, but I believe you can map a variety of controllers.  I purchased a Logitech Gamepad F310, although I've never used it (actually, it's still in the original, factory sealed packaging).

My controller mapping is very basic.  I use only the keyboard (accelerator = left shift key) and mouse (steering, gear shift = left click, brake pedal = right click).  I have nothing to compare it to, but it seems to work quite well.

My personal goal for 2014 is to record and reach a KS on Donkey Kong so I can get my L=22 badge. Also, to speed run Zelda II in a hour and a half!
IT...WILL...HAPPEN...AHHHHH!!!

About your amazing Outrun run there Stella_blue, is this the easiest/shortest path? I tried it at a friend today and managed to complete it 5/10 times which is alot better.

Also, do you know about the dip switches? The thing is that I'd get 27 mill a couple of years ago. I'm not close now. Well, 21 mill today but the 27 was made on a more difficult path. I have tried to change the dips in mame in case I was playing with easy settings (I must have done that) but when I change nothing seems to happen. The starting time is still 75 sec and what the Time adj. dip does, I do not know. I have no experience playing with a keyboard which is the only option at my girlfriend's house so I can't/won't try a game. I also think playing with a keyboard ruin the whole gaming experience (no offense).

Do you know anything about easy v.s normal settings?

Edit: Forgot to reset after dip change. The time adjustment gave 5 more seconds. What the easy setting does compared to the normal I do not know. Less traffic?
