Title: Crazy Kong High Score List Discussion
Post by: Monstabonza on November 11, 2013, 09:13:00 pm
I have been thinking about this for a while and was going to do it before I
took over the DkJr list, But anyway if we are going to have a Crazy Kong High Sore List,
how are we going to do it? What rules are we going to have in place?
I have a few thoughts on this but am going to leave it up to
everybody to come up with the rules that should be in place.
To start the list I will combine Tg and Marp scores together,
I was also thinking about adding Retro Uprising and Aurcade scores aswell,
depending on what everyone else thinks.
OK so there it is, Discuss
Nick

I like your ideas for combining all the lists.

Though I'm not a CK player yet, I intend to be at some point in the future. I'd vote to allow for the floor-glitch skips.
Title: Re: Crazy Kong High Score List Discussion

i think the floor skip glitch could be included, because i think the player takes a higher risk to do this glitch than he would take by playing "normaly".

also the "ladder glitch" should be allowed, even tho i'm not sure if it counts as a glitch anyway.

are there anymore glitches i forgot?

BTW. are we going to have only 1 list for CK in a particular version or also bootlegs and stuff?

I think the list should be for the Crazy Kong Pt2 rom set. I also agree to allow the use of the warp glitch.
Does anyone have an idea of how many extra points the glitch would add overall?

Warp glitch must be included, in my opinion.  Actually, it could mean a decrease in points, depending on how one is playing. (Running boards or point pressing).  It's a feature of the game, there's no reason not to include it.  The hammer drop on the pie factory should be included.  I agree with Estel, the Crazy Kong HSL should only include the Crazy Kong part 2 romset (ckong).  There can be other lists for other variations eventually, but ckong is the 'definitive' version, IMO.  I love the idea of combining all of the scores from the different scoreboards, although there should be some solid proof of the score.  .inp for MAME submissions seems fair to me, although with different versions of MAME, I'm not sure this would always be an option.  I'll let someone else weigh in.  Great thread!

The warp glitch should be included just for the fact of using it with point pressing will achieve the highest score. If we ever get into tracking speed runs the warp will be the way to go. I think an (*) could be used to indicate scores done without the use of the warp or hammer drop.

I was planing on doing tho for the crazy kong part 2 set.
I should have said that first. I am more than willing to do other clones but would like to get his list sorted first before I start on anything else.
Yeah I was thinking .inp to be supplied with mame submission, probably leave it to any wolf mame version just to keep the amount of mame versions in check. It will be advisable to stream all games although I understand this is not always possible.
And it's looking like we will allow all glitches to maximise the scoring potential of the game.
I can doa speed running list aswell if that what people want.

Awesome list so far. I hope to get on it eventually. A few observations:

1) Brian Allen just recently killscreened the game with a score of 566,600. November 11, 2013. That score is on MARP. So, that would move his #55 score up to #15, just behind Ben Falls.
2) I believe Ben Falls' game was a killscreen.
3) Should we suggest the real names of MARP players if they have chosen to use a nickname on that site? I'm not sure what the etiquette is in that case.
4) I will suggest a correction to the 1st place name: Phil Tudose  ;D

Great work. Keep it up!

Ok 1,2 and 4 fixed.
As for 3 i'm not sure what the etiquette is for that.

And ill take a guess and say Everyone above Ben Falls Has got  killscreen but I couldn't say if there game was.

My score date should be 7/11/00, those 2005 dates are when tg populated their DB

My score date should be March 17th, 2012. The date you have there is when I (finally) uploaded the game to MARP. I don't know why I waited so long, but you can check the INP (http://replay.marpirc.net/inp/e/6/3/cpx_ckongpt2_608900_wolf106.zip) if you wanna verify that!

My game was a 22-1 kill screen (as per TG rules at the time).

Very, very interesting list! I didn't know about a lot of these scores.

And I see that you're going by dd/mm/yyyy. I support that.

I wish America would switch (like they should switch to the metric system), but you can't get Americans to do anything that makes sense.

(Note that Jeff phrased his as mm/dd/yyyy - should be July 11, 2000, ie, 11/07/2000 in your format)

Something is wrong with a formula in my sheet at the moment with the dates, some players are showing the date for the player directly above them alphabetically,
As for the date format it is all I have ever known.

Also I should note I have left of scores from retro uprising that finished before all men were dead as these people were only playing to complete level 1.
I have also implied a score base limit of 7650, if you can't beat the default score then sorry but go and practice a little more :(

My score date was July of 2000 but it is showing up as 2013, I'm not 100% but I think it was a KS. It might be easier if I just put up a better score. Maybe I can beat Phil and see if that gets him play some CK.  ;D

That date problem was me being a retard and putting in in wrong, that will be the cause of the mistakes from here on in I believe.

I don't know what your submission rules are but I did a 573,000 kill screen last October 29. I don't have an .inp but I streamed it on twitch, you can see it here:

The list looks great. I agree with Jeff, I think an (*) should be used on the games that utilized the warp and/or hammer drop.

Hi all
I will start adding an * to scores that use the warp or hammer drop. The only game I'm certain of if Tim's game which he states he used it to get to 22-4.

I am not in a position to start taking scores just yet but should be in a couple of days.
I have to type something up regarding submissions but an inp or full twitch recording should be fine(it's kinda up to everyone else to decide what is acceptable and what isn't, I'm no dictator) I also need to add A couple of the members games too so the list is not complete yet

If anyone can tell me any ks on the list and any game that uses glitches I will add the appropriate things to the list. Hopefully we are fully functioning by the end of the weekend but we'll see what happens.
Thank you all for your interest in this

My score needs to be put up on this list. I achieved a CK KS with the score of 487,700 on 8/31/13

the twitch archieve is here
http://www.twitch.tv/shane_nc/c/2847892 (http://www.twitch.tv/shane_nc/c/2847892)

I did not use any level skips, hammer drops, or ladder glitches

I did not use the warp or the hammer drop for my KS

I wasn't aware that the hammer drop had any controversy around it.

I didn't use it in my game (FWIW), because I felt at the time that it was break-even in the long run and not worth the aggravation, but hammer-dropping isn't even against TG rules.

Should we put *'s next to all the DK scores that leech next to Kong's foot?  If it's in the game, it's in the game.

I think there is a fairness issue involved with the asterisk, since some of us (like myself) have scores that would have been 15K or so higher if we had NOT been forced to adhere to TG's "no warp" rule at the time of the run.

My 608,900 game would probably be 622K to 625K (4th or 5th, below Sczerby but somewhere neck-and-neck with Jeff Wolfe) if I'd been able to do the floor-jump, as they did on their games.

It was a mistake to ever forbid it (IMO), but the damage is grandfathered-in already, so it's probably fair to make note of it.

But the hammer drop was never forbidden or considered questionable so I don't think that should have any bearing on the HS table.

EDIT: I just F10'd through my 608,900 game, made a save state at the 22-1 "HOW HIGH" screen, then did a "what-if" from there. I ended up with 625,100 when the 22-4 KS kicked in. ;D

Chris the warp was allowed by TG back when I got my score but I messed it up and that ended the game at the normal KS. Later when TG changed the rules they got rid of Ben Jos's score for warping and mine just for trying to warp.

I thought TG prohibited the hammer drop but I haven't looked at their rules for CK in a long time.

Oh, OK, I didn't realize they'd DQ'ed you just for TRYING to warp! That's funny.

Pretty amazing that you got 624K in 2000.

I remember checking the TG rules when I first started putting scores up in 2011 because I wanted to be sure to follow them exactly, and that was something I specifically wanted to know about. Nothing about the hammer-drop.

It DID say that the level skip was forbidden, and that "this trick is performed on the barrel and conveyor stages." I always thought that was weird, because there's no way to skip levels on conveyors (as far as I know at least). But maybe that's somehow a reference to the hammer-drop?

At the time I thought it was only done to get someone a top score and decided I wanted no part of the classic arcade crowd but several people spoke up to defend my score (couldn't speak for myself ,didn't have account). Funny now.

Good to know since TG is down

I bet your correct about the conveyor skip being a reference to the hammer drop, just not typed up correctly.

I SWEAR I read somewhere online that it was possible to fall through the bottom floor on the conveyors and pass the level, but it wasn't something that was as controllable as the barrel floor skip. I can't seem to find that now, but maybe this will jog someone's memory. If it's true, that might be why TG listed the conveyor stage in its requirements.

Great list Nick.  Donkey Kong without the boring Leg Humping that goes with DK.

When is the CK Off happening?  I'm in (because I may finish in top 10)

So i'm just going to jot down some submission rules and see what everyone thinks.

1. scores uploaded to twin galaxies\Marp\Aurcade\RetroUprising will automatically be accepted to the list
2. Mame submissions to be done in wolfmame 106 or higher only.
3. Mame submissions to be accompanied with Inp and wlf where applicable.
4. It is preferable that games are streamed live although not mandatory.
5. Arcade submissions must be streamed live and must show 1 full cycle of attract mode either before or after game is played.
6. All known warps\Glitches ARE allowed. eg. Level skip, Hammer Drop, ladder cheat.
7. A kill screen game will be defined as a game that reaches lvl 22, if you die trying to level skip ill give it to you.
8. I will check all submissions for correct settings and the score and lvl reached before adding to the List.
9. ANY SCORE on the list may be challenged and put under further scrutiny if a player thinks something is wrong.

That's what i have so far its preety relaxed rule set but it seems to be what people are after

I like RetroUprising a lot, but the one potential problem with RetroUprising scores is that you're allowed to pause during recordings there which you can't do for TG, MARP, Aurcade or any other real arcade.  I'm not sure how concerned folks are about that, and maybe there's a way to distinguish RetroUprising scores that had a pause and disallow those for submissions.

Pauses are registered when a player submits a score at RU. I've Pm'd Nick the details of which ones on his list (2) were paused during gameplay.

My best is 616,500 om MAME I streamed it live about a year ago, but it isn't saved all I have is a picture.  I will have to maybe get back into it again and go for a higher score.

Ok first a big thanks to josephjo, who has offered to check all RU scores for pausing.
This should put peoples minds at ease.
He has also offered that he will verify and upload to youtube any "monster scores" so that should be a little incentive.
Here is a little update to the submission rules let me know if anything is missing.

1. This list is for Crazy Kong Part 2 Falcon bootleg
2. scores uploaded to twin galaxies\Marp\Aurcade\RetroUprising will automatically be accepted to the list
3. Mame submissions to be done in wolfmame 106 or higher only.
4. Mame submissions to be accompanied with Inp and wlf where applicable.
5. Pausing is not allowed in mame, if you try on RetroUprising we will find out.
6. It is preferable that games are streamed live although not mandatory.
7. Arcade submissions must be streamed live and must show 1 full cycle of attract mode either before or after game is played.
8. All known warps\Glitches ARE allowed. eg. Level skip, Hammer Drop, ladder cheat.

10. I will check all submissions for correct settings and the score and lvl reached before adding to the List.
11. ANY SCORE on the list may be challenged and put under further scrutiny if a player thinks something is wrong.

If everyone is happy with this, ill start taking submissions.
Nick

OK This post is regarding Svavar and Shane's submissions and Probably Dan's to but he may hae the .Inp file.

First of all i'll start this by saying I am convinced that all three games are legit games by watching them although I have no hard evidence.
Now on the current rules I guess they are not allowed.
So i am suggesting the rules need refining a little.
This is not me trying to fabricate new rules to have these scores on the list but rather to have the best and fairest Submission rules.
It is not really my intent to have a list that will omit legitimate scores due to finding a technicality,
So im going to suggest something along the lines of.

Games that are Streamed Live that do not specifically fit the the rules above may be put to the community to decide the outcome.
People who witness game live, actual stream highlight and anything else may be submitted to help your case. All scores submitted this way will have the stream and CV listed as the Source. CV will stand for Community Validated.

If anyone has any ideas i'm all ears, This is not my list rather the users list so lets see if we can come up with something.

Nick

Hmm I'm not sure I still have the INP for that game or not to be honest. If I do its on my external HDD at home and I'll upload it if I do have it. Otherwise I do have the whole game on twitch. If not I'll replay it because I intend on trying to break 700k one day.
