I am looking for the exact rules on controls.
Rebinding keys from the default arrows to w,a,s,d.
Multiple binds for jump, example making buttons 1 and 2 for jump then pressing both at the same time when jumping.
Using keyboard as opposed to joystick.
Going to assume that turbo fire is not allowed, but I am curious on this as well.
Is any of this regulated or some sort of file somewhere I can read on these rules?
the reason i ask is in the fighting game community for example they allow mostly any controls. infact there is a top player at one character who uses pad which has analog sticks because this allows him to do motions which are humanly impossible on normal sticks. they also allow mapped buttons that do kick+kick+kick which allows simultaneous presses to become easier.
another thing that is allowed is convex over concave buttons. This allows speedier button presses, the reason these things are important to me is i know the differences and what i prefer. I did hear some video on youtube and it sounded as if the player on his machine was smashing convex buttons for springboard jumps as he was pressing very fast.

This question is proposed to all of us. So far no specifications have ever been made either by TG or by DKF. No restrictions are placed on the use of auto fire, multiple buttons mapped for the same purpose on keyboard. As far as I know the concave and convex issue has never disqualified a score. Even if you only had the concave buttons, there is different positions to set the jump as well such as requiring it to be pushed 2/3 of the way down before input clicks, 1/2 of the way, or 1/3 of the way. No one really concerns themselves with these issues. Besides, how would I even verify the keyboard mapping, auto fire, etc? People can say and do what they want in this regard as far as I am concerned.
But... I will say this... if you are playing on cab it would be a players choice to consider factory settings. If the buttons are concave then use concave, if the button input position is 1/2 push position then have it set to 1/2 push position. I think this is important for the player to place them self with others in this regard. It is not just an issue of getting a high score but did you do it in the same way with a level playing field as others. I know of someone on the DKF HSL that used a MsPacman joystick on their cab with no restrictor plate. No one has fussed about it.
Mame is another animal. Since there is no default mame mapping for DK or DK Jr then maybe consider making it as much like arcade with one button for jump, and no auto fire. But like I said, no one can verify keyboard mapping.
I don't think we need any official rule accept maybe to mention what is allowed so that this question can be anticipated and be already answered for newer members or anyone else for that matter.

I'm not gonna hassle JC about it, since I know being the de facto admin of the list was sorta shoved in his lap by necessity, but there are only 25 MARP scores to tend to. Several are on here already, and most are too low to bother with, but there are a few exceptions.
In particular, "VERTEX-B" has 1,040,100 on there, which is obviously a major score and the list seems incomplete without it. Does anyone know who that is?
There's also some idiot in 6th place who posered his way through the game and blew it on 21-4.

Wow, simply amazing! Job well done indeed! It took me forever to get a score like that, and you come along in a very short period of time, and you do it in a matter of a couple of months. Congrats on that. 8)
Edit: I think you officially made your goal of being an elite Donkey Kong Junior player. I have a feeling though, that you are not stopping there. ;D

tyvm. yeah i finally met all criteria in this game short of world record. I finally played a real game, with full point press and kill screened and hit the 1.3 range. now that i finally hit this giant leap i have to test myself in arcade too see if i can do it there =)

I have to say, I think you came onto the scene 8 months too late. Back then the record was 1.329 million or something like that. The record now is much, much harder to get at 1.412 million. On a plus side, if you do break this record I think you will have a much greater appreciation for it since it is now so much harder to get. I do however think you have the aptitude to break this record.
Also, remember this, your score is already higher than Billy Mitchell, and Steve Wiebe. Only 4 players in the history of the game including yourself have a higher score than those two legends.

The reason I think it's possible for me is because I had a perfect springboard game which confirms that I can do it on a good day, combine that with the sheer amount of horrible errors including my one death in my 1299,500 game and it equates to a 1.45 mil game in theory...if I had the skill to get the 1200 glitch regularly and the fourth spark without relying on luck then I would imagine I could hit 1.5 but neither of those skills I possess...yet

well ive had days in my street fighter days where i did stuff that i felt was impossible for a normal human to do, so i believe anything is possible. i played my most recent good game with 1 death and that was mainly due to running out of time because i was so tired my timing was off on springboard. if i can have 1 death only and it was a silly death, then i think i can do 0 deaths. as for those 3 lives being 90k extra points, if i ever wanna beat marks score since im not as good as him i think i need to have all 3 of them to beat it hehehe
one thing though is i have 2 save states when i have spare time to practice, one loads me right next to the double spark on hideout, so i can practice glitch 1200 timing, other is springboard, i just practice those things, i should try to add quad spark kill combo to my regimen since the top dkjr players can do that while i rely on it happening by luck

90k wow that's huge. so was the 1 death from being too risky? it sounds like dying is potentially losing a bunch of points. is is worth those points to play safer or not ?

Playing safe is very important but too safe and you lose too many points and end up with a shit score. Thing is I play a very safe game for my skill level while putting my risk to its max for my level. I have a few tricks that remove much risk like when I snap jaw jump I stay by the right ledge so if I time a jump a tiny bit too early I can't die to that....this is what I call idiot proofing my game. Yea I can jump jaws but does it mean I won't mess up one jump in the possibly over 1000 jumps for that section of point pressing...all it takes is one mistake. By jumping there I've effectively removed most of the risk as well as actually created a situation that allows me to take impossible jumps for points
What I mean by that is mebbe someone not so close to the edge would be unable to make a jump because they would land on the snap jaw. But I can do the jump and get extra points.
I also do this 'edge' jumping right below the short vine while waiting for the red jaws to line up its tiny things like this that idiot proof my games and make me so much less likely to die.

Hey Dave, I think you mean Corey.
Chris Chambers was a wide receiver for the University of Wisconsin, and later played 10 seasons in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins, San Diego Chargers, and Kansas City Chiefs. I have no idea what his DK Junior personal best is, or whether he's ever played the game. ;)

I dare to post this, but I do with the greatest amount of disappointment.
I achieved a score of 761,600 this evening. I burned all three of my guys on a single springboard. And then I had the game beat, but I moved my hand to a chain too early on E.4, and died. I will only post the inp because of the swearing in the broadcast, not to mention the crying at the end.

I created a pace chart of 1,014,000 and designed my play around that goal. I slowed down on level E, because I wanted to eliminate any possible risk at all, so that left me with 1,010,400. I do not know if I want to try 1.05M or not. I could possibly get it in less than a month but this was suppose to be a small break from my 1.1M attempts on Donkey Kong. I may try to see how I would have to play to get that pace and then perhaps decide from there.

Oh, he did more than just Killscreen both. He is only the 6th man to get a combined 2 million total on both Donkey Kong, and Donkey Kong Junior, and more importantly he is only the 5th person ever to get 1 million on Donkey Kong, and 1 million on donkey Kong Junior.
Congrats Corey. Simply amazing that you were able to crack a million within 3 weeks time.

Unfortunately I do not have anything to officially submit but I did want to mention that I got 1,008,900 points this evening at 1.1M+ pace, lost on C.4. 1.1 is right around the corner. I had two guys in reserve around 950K but I am complete sleep deprived and just couldn't function any more. Give me a few more attempts on a good day, and this will be done.

I just had the best game of my life 616K and I was recording it via Justin.tv. I will be uploading it to youtube right now. I will also submit this score via the Jr. submission page. I took video of inside of cab and pulled out board. I also denoted time and date via my iphone lock screen. The reason I did that is so if my camera turned off I could prove it was me the whole time. And it did, of course... so I reshowed the time and date on my I phone and showed my face. I'm not sure if Justin.tv to youtube is accepted. However I wanted to see if it was and none the less maybe some of the pro guys could give me some pointer. Thanks again to all here at the Forum. Links below

Other people will be able to watch the last two parts of your videos to see the games room and inside of your cab, I have never personally Submitted Arcade to TG so I could not tell you if they would accept it or not. But my gut felling is no, the save kit is a no-no i believe and as for the pots who know what they will say?

I just got my first DK JR Kill Screen about two mins ago. I just posted a video today on the MAME joystick I made with a legit Nintendo Joystick. you should check out the video its in the gen streaming section. Well I used that bad boy today in Mame an on 05.16.14 I got my first killscreen and I have the inp and wlf file attached 621K killscreen and theres many to thank here for this day.

Got a second killscreen, and I recorded the whole game this time. It should come out to 818k and change, which is a personal best, too. Aside from the video, I had a good handful of witnesses at different points in the game, including Ben Falls, Doc Mack, and Hans Kollinger (Hans probably being the most present). The list now includes all TG and MARP scores and will be updated at the end of Yolympics to include more of those scores that meet our verification requirements. Thank you all for your patience, especially Al Jones whose score took 11 months to get on the board. ;D
As always, this is a community-owned list, so please give it a look and check for any errors or omissions. The only major change apart from the new scores was to change some 80s scores from killscreens to not-killscreens. While the scores by Jeff Brandt and Kent Farries have some documentation that supports their killscreens, the others do not (as far as I'm aware).

OK, watched the whole game except major portions of the point pressing on the spark stage. Awesome job getting that C Badge, and the Trifecta Badge! Now some thoughts. I really think you should just get the 1.2 million out of the way for DKJr. now. You don't have to do much to do it either. So here are some tips.
1. Just save state practice the three fruit smash on the spark stage. I swear you missed at least ten of those. So that's 16,000 extra points. So now you're looking at a 1.183 million score.
2. I think you would do well to go for the 3 snapper smash on the the top fruit of the Jungle board. You might be losing at least 500 points a board because you are not doing that. So 20 X 500=10,000. Now you are at 1.193 million.
3. You definitely can do better on the the Dean strat. I saw you get a lot of 100 points instead of the 300 points you could get with. Clean up your Dean strat play and you'll definitely be easily over 1.2 million.
So what I am saying is you don't have to point press the Jungle board to get your 1.2 million. Just clean up your game a tad bit, and you'll be over the 1.2 million mark.

Just a warning though. 1.3 million is much, much harder to get than 1.2 million. It's the same difficulty increase from 925k, to 1.025 million in Donkey Kong.

No people will want to watch you point press sparks. It doesn't get streamed that often, and so it provides an alternative to the monotonous Donkey Kong streamed game. Also, congrats to Flobeamer for remaining in the top 100! I see a couple of really good players are about to be bumped out of the top 100. J.D. Lowe at 100, and Phil Tudose at 98.

The hideout isn't as bad as the L4+ spring/bird board, imo. I have a tough time getting the big jump off the spring whether I try to time it or when mashing the jump button as fast as possible. Then getting (kinda) familiar with the bird pattern took me days of save stating. <confused>

Yes the 380K was just to make sure that my scores would be accepted, I've been scoring over 500K regularly for a few months now.
I started playing DKJR in Feb 2020, on my modded arcade machine.

Yes I am a complete unknown, and it feels weird entering my score.
I knew I had a KS in me, just didn't think it would happen so fast.
Before that game, I had only broken 700K once (barely).
I hadn't even seen level A before!
I decided to install wolfmame on a windows laptop and put that in my arcade machine only a few weeks back.
I followed the instructions posted somewhere for getting it set up correctly to enter scores.
My usb joystick and buttons connects into the laptop, I'm a joystick player, no keyboards or console style controllers for me.
If you need to see any wolfmame configs, please let me know.
I do think that I have a 1.2 in me before the end of the year...

Thanks for getting me added on the JR list Jeremy! Thanks again also to Andrew/Barra for the Twitch tutorial for JR as well! The game really seemed impossibly hard at first coming over from regular DK, but the tutorial broke it down so I knew where I should focus my efforts.

This here is where a couple of bad Apple's have upset the cart. Thanks to all the cheaters. Us non cheaters have to check all the boxes. Great score Dallas. And thanks Jry. for keeping the score board legit even though sometimes it's just not fair. Do it again Dallas. I knew my Jungles were good almost throughout. Unfortunately, I've regressed on the Springboards. I have a more difficult go of it now than I did when I was a kid. Making too much of it in my head, I suspect.
I don't generally toot my own horn, but I really think that if I can get back to being decent on the Springboards and finish with the ability to sac two lives on the last Hideout, that marky_d is within reach. I'll keep trying :)

Once you get to a certain level of scoring, death points are the only way to go any higher. I've had garbage death point games in the mid 1.3 range. I don't THINK 1.4 is possible without decent death points.
Never having seen Mr. Kiehl play, yours is the second most awesome performance I've ever seen in Junior.

As near as I can tell, this is a Jungle average record (18,972) and death points record (93,700). Time for the DKJR players to really start thinking about that 1.5M. I know people love the DK drama, but there's something really special happening with DKJR and I hope people start to notice/realize it.

A tournament may be in order. Strike while the irons are hot as it were. Mr. Chambers, Mr. Tudose and Mr. Hamill are all actively playing at the moment. A tournament with those guys involved COULD discourage less experienced players from joining OR... it could draw some people who have never given the game a try. I don't know if those guys would participate in a tournament, but I'd love to see how it would go.

Hard to cut out the silly mistakes. Too many variations and too easy to walk into them.

Not knowing Mr. Kiehl and having never seen him play, I'll take your word for what a great player he is... And his history of excellence :) That being said, I respect your opinion and thank you for the high praise.
As ridiculous as this sounds, knowing the people that are currently "practicing" and the hype surrounding Junior at the moment, I would not be surprised to see the entire top ten on the list to be in the 1.4 to 1.5 range by this time next year.

Obviously, you have to be prepared to switch gears/improvise if the Snapjaws kill the pattern. But this is the easiest pattern I've ever used on the Chains. If you have any questions or would like some help, don't hesitate to ask.

But you tied Shannon for the highest death points I've seen...93,700. When you put all the pieces together you'll take 2nd place by a mile. I mean, you'll still be a mile behind Phil, but it's a start. ;D
