Title: Most impressive mastery of a game !?
Post by: kalel on October 02, 2019, 01:28:12 pm
I was wondering whose mastery of what game impresses you most ? I bring this up because i have been watching Joseph Saelee play tetris the last couple weeks . And i have never been more impressed watching someone play a game!

Of all the tourneys, events and general gatherings I've been to, the 3 most impressive ones I've ever seen were

Donald Hayes on Centipede
Jimmy Linderman on Mr. Don't
Laszlo Takacs on Tempest

They are all just so far ahead of anything I've ever seen on each game, it's remarkable to me.  These are just out of the ones I've seen live, however.

check out a Super Mario Bros run by a top 5 player.  Or of course Mccurdy, Lakeman, Copeland, and Dean Saglio are treats to watch.
Abdner Ashman is great at Jr. Pac man, Ms. Pac Man, and Robotron.
Kasper on DKJr, and Mappy is a sight to see.
Andrew Barrow on DK3, and Galaga is awe inspiring.
There is a whole bunch of others though.

- Aart on MsPac or Galaxian.
- Johnny Mac at the end of his Joust marathon. He could barely speak English anymore yet continued to clear waves.

Aart on Galaxian for sure

Saw Don and Dwayne go head to head on Centipede at Replay World Championship in 2016 (I think) and THAT was probably the most impressive in-person gaming performances I've ever seen.

*sniff* Not me on Galaxian?

Not to take anything away from Aart' s score.

Don doesn't impress me on Track & Field and he's top 3 in active players. I can beat him with one hand. For reals. Drunk too! He's never cracked 90k.

I will say I do recall the 2M you put up at TG as I was active over there at that time, and your last ship run was absolutely crucial. Something like 800k on the last ship or something. Amazing sir.

I've seen a lot of great gaming videos but if I limit it to what I've seen live then it goes to watching Sam McNear play Alpine Ski with a close second watching what Ken House can do to Dig Dug.  Maybe Fly will play some T&F at Grinkers this year so I can add him to my list.

Yeah I would have surely added Hec to my list but I missed seeing him play T&F live at our only meeting at Funspot.  :(

OMG im on the list! Thanks mate!

Its Apexman1234 now :D

Although im getting anxious to play some DK and DKJr. Really think im gonna get my monitor fixed and start some 1.2 grinding again soon. Winter is coming and i wont be doing a lot of outside activities Kreygasm

On this I will admit watching Wags play is always a pleasure. Him and Don both make it look so easy so whenever  I actually manage to beat them on a game I feel like I really accomplished something.

John Mac / BBH are also a pleasure to watch on so many titles. George on DK3 was insane. Ken rocking Dig Dug and Robotron. Hec on T&F and Excitebike. So many great players out there.

I think the most skillful piece of live gaming I've seen was Tony Temple destroying Missile Command at his house a few years ago.

You need to see the game being played properly to appreciate it. TT's control of the Trackball is mighty impressive and made a relentless game look surprisingly easy.

I love playing Alpine Ski. And thanks for saying I'm a master. I don't feel like one. I'm trying to figure out a way to stream me playing on my twitch. Twitch.tv/theclassicarcadelife

Alpine ski monitor on web cam has scrolling lines in the screen. Any ideas on how to eliminate them without making screen so bright you can see game play.
