Title: Mister Awesome's Donkey Kong Express
Post by: Weehawk on August 14, 2018, 03:14:23 pm
(http://www.slither-gdi.net/dkexpress.jpg)

Mister Awesome, spurred into action by his nemesis' recent grinding sessions on Twitch, has decided to implement a courier service in the U.S., delivering Donkey Kong boards from those that have them to those that need them for a nominal fee.

In order to reduce operating expenses, Mister Awesome will not try to establish universal service, but using a simple (if nonsensical) rule, will deliver only from certain states to certain other states.

As some examples, Mister Awesome's rule will have have these results:

Twenty one (21) states will be able to send to (and obviously receive from) themselves. Twenty nine (29) will not.

Kentucky is the only state which can only to send to and receive from itself.

Montana is one of five (5) states which can only send to one (1) state and can receive from none.

Florida is one of eight ( 8 ) states that can send to four (4) states. No state can send to more than four.

Kansas is one of two (2) states that are completely left out in the cold by Mister Awesome's rule. They cannot send or receive at all.

For the first person to correctly answer the question below (keep the rule to yourself for the benefit of other who still might want to try), who does not already have one, I have a t-shirt: If you already have one you are playing for fun and bragging rights only.

The question:
Which state can receive from the most states, and how many?

If you already have a DK Forum shirt, do not post answers in the thread. You may PM me your answer and I will acknowledge you in the thread.

I expect I will have to post more hints as time goes on.

Indiana, 9.

Sorry - edited the original before I noticed you already replied.

If this is wrong, then I'm so far off base on it that I'll give up :-).

Not correct.

Okay, I need to give him credit for this.

What I meant to ask was "Which state can receive from the most states, and how many?" and I have corrected the original post.

What I originally typed was "Which state can receive from the most other states, and how many?" which could (and probably would) be interpreted not to include the state itself. Indiana can receive from 11 states, including itself, so I will accept that it receives from 10 other states.

Another hint for people who still want to figure the rule out:

Mister Awesome knows nothing about geography.

Additional clues:

There are only two states that cannot send at all.

18 states cannot receive at all, among them Maryland and North Carolina, who are among the states that can send to 4 states.

At a glance, it appears that New Hampshire is the state that can send the furthest, being able to send to Hawaii. Three other states can send to Hawaii, but none are on the East Coast. Hawaii can only send to one state, and it is on the West Coast.

That van doesn't look seaworthy or capable of flight.

How does it get to / from Hawaii?

I don't know, but Hawaii does have interstate highways.

Kansas is one of two (2) states that are completely left out in the cold by Mister Awesome's rule. They cannot send or receive at all.

The other is Texas.

Montana is one of five (5) states which can only send to one (1) state and can receive from none.

The one state Montana can send to is Missouri.

The other four that cannot receive and can only send to one are:

Mississippi  (can send to Michigan)
New Jersey (can send to Nebraska)
Tennessee (can send to Nebraska)
Vermont (can send to Missouri)

As if anybody's still interested, below is the list of 50 states.
