Anyone know why?

There's discussion on it over at klov, along with some planned shenanigans.

No definitive answer but supposition is that the mini-golf they are building will take up the tourney room.
You have 2 other options during that weekend, however.
KLOV members are hosting a mini-tourney that weekend at FS still:

Also GGA is hosting a tourney of their own at their Chicago area location:

Both are excellent choices, but choose wisely for while the real grail will grant you eternal life...the false one will take it from you.... <popcorn>

I hear there is free beer in Chicago. Kappa
Seriously, though, Doc is holding some games as mysteries and planning comparable cash prizes to try and recreate the FS magic. Please let me know if you need any help figuring out how to make it here to play in the GGA tournament. We really want to make it a success since it is the first time they are trying it. If it does not go well, it could be several years before we convince him to try again. Please, please tell your friends to come to Chicago. That being said, all of us Chicagolanders will really miss Funspot and all the folks who wind up there instead, and we certainly won't hold it against anyone who goes there.

I was at Fun Spot last night. I asked one of the workers if he knew why the tourny was off this year. He said "the guy that runs it" is too busy to do it this year.

Roughly how many games you figure were powered off that you noticed?

Not many. Not counting pinball, maybe 6 or so in the whole place. Very happy to report that Star Castle has made its long-awaited return to the Fun Spot!

Excellent, that's good news. Thanks for the info.

Considering the collective brainpower and enthusiasm of this community, I find it stunning that one person being too busy is the reason we find ourselves in this situation - if that is indeed the case. We all want to get together, play some games, and have some fun. I'm not trying to trivialize the effort required or make anyone feel bad - I just can't accept that explanation. Even if it's not the "full deal" we've been spoiled with in previous years, we would still show up, and we would still come back the next year.</Rant>

Anyone hear anything about a ("official") 2016 tourney at FS? Perhaps we could have a group volunteer to arrive early to help Gary out so it doesn't get cancelled like last year?
-
I'd like to see the tourney moved to the end of June. In the three times I've been there for the tournament I've had to take my kids out of school.

I heard John Jacobsen's "Brofest" tournament has taken over Funspot's annual tournament... I believe it is supposed to be June 3-4. Here is a link with a post from John about the event:
