Title: The Spider's Web
Post by: timhett on November 25, 2014, 08:41:21 pm
The last week has been pretty eventful, including a long sought after score.
I've been playing Millipede about 3 years now and for the last year the goal has been to break a million points on default settings.  What started out as a casual game to show FGS some tips ended up being my break through game.  In fact I forgot it was a real game rather than a practice game until I made the twitch highlight  FailFish  I killed off the game at 1,301,049 with 5 men in reserve since I was late leaving for Funspot.   Kreygasm Kreygasm

Next Milli goals - consistent millions on defaults, 300k TGTS

Alright, upped my Millipede personal best again this morning  Kreygasm
 <Walter> New High Score  1,478,766
This time I didn't have to kill it off or anything and could play it out, though the outcome was slightly disappointing (was hoping for 1.5-1.6).  That's my second million despite my practice schedule being off lately, so maybe I figured something out.  Or luck is just being nice.  Anyway I may try  to submit to TG which would put me in 7th place, not a terrible starting position.  Or maybe I should send it over to   <Pigger>   Kappa Kappa

I enjoy me some Pede (100 and 1000 footed variations <Kuh>) but watching you play in person was mindblowing. Kick some ass.

Kreygasm Another milestone in my early gaming career, got my first submission accepted into Twin Galaxies.   Kreygasm
This was my most recent million point game, figured it was good enough to start my journey up the scoreboard, starting at 7th place.  The ultimate goal will be many millions and will not happen for another many moons...  It's a small start but I'm excited about the direction things are moving and hope to continue the forward momentum.

Earlier this week I came very close to hitting my (first) TGTS goal of 300k.  I made it to 289k and would've crossed that line but the last two deaths were bad deaths FailFish  But this near miss has helped to keep me inspired as the search continues.  If that 300k doesn't come this weekend I'll go ahead and submit the 289 as a placeholder and to get onto the other Millipede scoreboard (would be a strong 2nd place ) So many submission points, may as well use some of them, right?  Here is the 289k game if anyone is interested-

The crushing continues...  Next goal has been attained - new pb on Millipede TGTS   332,131

I plan to submit this one to TG and may swap boards back to default/marathon settings to work on multimillion point games.  We'll see how it goes, but feeling very good about this personal best and while not a record, it is a significant step towards it.  One way or another, the spiders will keep dancing.  Kreygasm

It's a dark day in Spiderville.  My laptop has officially kicked the bucket.  It went from occasional blue screen to daily and then to BSOD about every 15 minutes or so.  Hoping to get a donation from my mother-in-law, if that one doesn't work I may be out of the streaming game for a very long time.   BibleThump
Not sure if I'll be able to participate in CrapMAME now because of the streaming issue, maybe I can inps...
In the meanwhile I'm working on max-out scores for Millipede, the top 3 scores are saved, would like them all to read 999999 and will record some games locally on another ancient device.
Also hoping to reach 100,000 on Asteroids and I continue to diddle with other random games.

Do you know what causes the blue screens? Can you write down the info that it shows when it crashes? Maybe we can help.

Not totally sure, there have been more than one message, including awesome things like how it also can't start after the crash.  I can take a photo of it or something, if someone can help, great.  I've tried disk recovery, virus checks, restarts, defrag, disk check and repair, put a big fan on it (in case it's overheating, though it sits on a fan pad thingy)... running out of things to try and I hate laptops since it's so hard to get inside them and do work like RAM swaps etc.  I'll take a photo tonight and post it.  We do have a line on a used one from my mother in law, not sure if it works, if it is up to streaming, or anything else.   BibleThump  I really appreciate your offer of assistance!

Wow looks like it's been a while since I touched this blog..  I was given a different laptop and was streaming fine until earlier this week.  The monitor on my Millipede has been somewhat sketchy for a while and after a week or two of increased blurriness the screen started to collapse  Or at least it was starting to shrink.  Fortunately I'd been expecting this and already had the cap kit purchased and in the house.  This was my first time doing a cap kit and was rather nervous about screwing it up and either frying myself or the monitor pcb.  Probably took about 3 times longer than it should have but finally got it done and put back together last night.  And voila, it all turned out great.  The image is clear, colors bright, blacks are finally black.  Kreygasm I'm please with the result and that I lost my capping virginity.  If you own these old games you end up having to work on them from time to time.  It's fun to learn this stuff and empowering also.  Now I guess it's time to fix the Tempest machine lol.

The insects keep invading and my bow keeps singing...
Streaming has been working out more or less...  still need to do some fixes/tweaks on my cab, but mostly things are functioning..  I finally got another monitor for the second Milli but also discovered that there are wiring issues and the machine will need a new wiring harness.  Haven't gotten to it yet, but am trying to make some moves, it would be nice to have both machines up and running.

Haven't gotten the 999,999 x3 yet, but got a 999,989 the other day Kreygasm.  Had a few days off earlier this week and managed to hit 900k or more 6 times over 3 days.  It's a good feeling, but only means I'm on the path with a long road ahead of me still.  The scores on the machine are all 999,xxx now.  Starting this weekend, I'm changing up my practice sessions a bit.  During the week, I'll still work on 999,999 since time is more limited.  The weekends will be real attempts at new high scores.  The next goal is 2.5 million, which would pass Eric Ginner and put me into 5th place.  After that it goes up to 4 million plus...  It's clear that my endurance needs some work.  Over the vacation I was playing about 4 hours a day and my hands are still hurting from it... Probably just need to keep at it, breaks from time to time to heal.

Finally achieved the 100k in asteroids.  Also been working on - Paperboy, Track and Field, Hyper Sports, Berzerk (slow bullets), Omega Fighter and Kangaroo, among other random games.
