Title: DK to JAMMA Adapter Score Classification: Arcade or JAMMA?
Post by: WCopeland on October 01, 2014, 09:01:50 am
Pretty simple question really that jry suggested I post here and get feedback on.

Let's say I have an original DK PCB.  It is connected to my cabinet using a JAMMA adapter.  Should a score submitted from this be counted as an Arcade score or a JAMMA score?

A DK PCB with a JAMMA adapter should not be separated out. For a lot of folks in Europe, getting a cab that's JAMMA and then swapping in various boards via adaptors is likely going to be the only way they can play original PCBs and submit since there is traditionally a lack of dedicated cabs.  A wiring harness does not alter the gameplay  <Mruczek>

Original PCB = Arcade I'd say. Jamma = 60-1 or some other jamma board that plays DK.

Is this in an original cab with original controls? IMO the controls are another factor in determining the "arcade" label but that's up to the scorekeeping gods.

original cab, original controls, original board. Only difference is JAMMA adapter for the board in this scenario

Arcade all the way!

Gratz on the machine. Post some pics when you get a chance.

I would concur. IT should be arcade accepted. I believe you are doing this so you can hook up other Jamma boards to the DK Cab right? (60-in-1 for example).

As long as you play on the DK board and not the 60-in-1 should be arcade accepted all day :D

Yeah I have an ArcadeSD that my girlfriend enjoys playing on, and I don't want to take that away from her. When I submitted a score from the original PCB I would show the ArcadeSD board powered down with the SD card removed so there was no room for doubt.

I submitted my initial Moon Patrol and D2K records using a JAMMA harness and PSP verified them for arcade so you know it's legit. Kappa

Well, just reverse the scenario. If you set up a JAMMA PCB to run from Nintendo-style wiring, would that somehow transform it into an original "Arcade" submission?

Of course not. It's just wiring.

All the JAMMA harness (or any other harness) does is control where electric current is going/not going.

The "JAMMA" category refers to the actual PCB you're playing from, not how your cabinet is wired.

I don't think this could be a debate even if someone wanted it to be!

As far as I am concerned that's an arcade score.  I believe the old old TG considered that an arcade score as well in every game except DK which required all original hardware.  Not sure what the new TG thinks.

If the 1P start button isn't original and the quarter isn't 1981 or earlier, it doesn't count as arcade.

Wes, your setup will qualify as an "Arcade" score. Please be sure to read over the List Submission Rules (https://donkeykongforum.net/index.php?topic=365.0) before your first Arcade submission to make sure all the necessary bits are filmed.

ALSO: We are renaming the "JAMMA" category to "Multi" to remove any confusion as to exactly what's going on with all those wires and volts and circuit boards and stuff.

Am I the cat on the far left?  He appears to be indulging in nap time.

I don't know about you, but every time I eat soup, I put the empty bowl upside down on my head (like a hat) and then take a nap.

I awoke from my most recent nap, found my way to the bathroom mirror, and noticed I was sporting a lampshade.
